As 2018 is coming to a close I have so much to be grateful for. It has been one hell of a rollercoaster year but I can honestly say, I wouldn’t change a thing. My heart is full and I can not wait to take on 2019 and see what it has in store for me. Are you excited as well?
It’s no secret that I absolutely LOVE this time between Christmas and the New Year. I love that the rush leading up to Christmas has gone and I can find some breathing space. I’m not a stay up late and party kind of gal at this time of year. I am unapologetically a recluse and lock myself away, (because I’m not very social as I’m so focused…… just ask my family!) to reflect on my year and get mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually prepared for the year ahead.
Apart from revamping my vision board, and doing a new year oracle card spread and cracking open a bottle of bubbly to celebrate the year, one of my other favourite rituals to make this yearly transition easier is contemplate and reflect on questions to look back over my year and determine the lessons that I learnt and the achievements or progress I’ve made. I also look to the coming year and get clear on my intentions and goals that I want to achieve. This helps me to start my year off being aligned to my purpose, gives direction as well as an opportunity to continually learn about who I am; because let’s face it…. I’m not the same person I was 12 months ago, and I’m pretty sure you aren’t either. You can download a Reflection & Intentions Guide that I put together below if you are keen to give it a try also.
Another tradition that I love each year is have a ‘word’ or ‘theme’ for the year. 2018 was my ‘Create with Courage’ year and boy did I become more courageous. You can find some inspiration that I used from my 2018 word of the year here in my Pinterest folder.
When I try to think of my yearly word I find that if I try and force it too much it just won’t come and I end up getting really frustrated! But if I just let it come to me it’s usually exactly the lesson I need to be learning that year. But I’m really not sure of my word for this year.
I was away on holidays with my family over Christmas and I was having a calm stroll along the beach with my husband when the ‘Universe yearly word download’ came to me. I thought…. Really??! That’s it? You can’t be serious! But no matter how much I try I just can’t shake it.
The word that came to me for 2019 is DISCIPLINE…. See! I mean honestly WTF?! Couldn’t the Universe have given me a touchy feely word like ‘Gratitude’ or ‘Love’ or even ‘Confidence’. However, when I sat down and gave it some thought I realised that it’s probably exactly what I need this year actually…. (ok,…. Thank You Universe!).
I realised that I need discipline to narrow my focus to choose and do what is only truely important rather than be tempted by all the “shiny objects” that go past. I need discipline to consistently show up in my business and in life each day in a way that is aligned with my values and my purpose. And I also need discipline to cultivate and master habits that are going to make me more productive, healthier and generally more happy with life. So for a word that I was originally wanting to throw back, I now say “good one Universe; good one, you got me…. again”. I can see that this is exactly what I need to learn this year.
